Jon Stevens announced for 2018 The Gulf Country Frontier Days Festival
The Gulf Country Frontier Days Festival is a 4 day event held in North-West Queensland’s Lower Gulf Country from August 16th through to August 19th. In 2018, the event will be held at Gregory Downs, about 4 hours drive North of Mount Isa.
The festival brings together First Nation cultures from around Australia and the world, to share the uniquely Australian landscapes of the Lower Gulf. First Nations musicians and artists from Canada, the United States and New Zealand will join Indigenous and non-indigenous Australians in the arena and on stage as a part of the festival’s cultural performance program.
The festival revolves around the Frontier Days Rodeo, which doubles as the National Indigenous Rodeo Championships and is the first of it’s kind to be held in Australia. The rodeo is affiliated with the Australian Professional Rodeo Association (APRA) and draws riders from around Australia to compete for one of the
richest purses on the circuit. Indigenous communities of the Lower Gulf region have a rich history of rodeo. It’s this unique and storied history that forged the creation of the National Indigenous Rodeo Championships, and has resulted in the event quickly becoming one of the most significant Indigenous Rodeo’s in Australia.
The 2018 Frontier Days Music Program features Archie Roach, Jon Stevens, Graeme Connors, Bennet, Bowtell and Urquhart (BBU), Shellie Morris, Warumpi Band ( Family and Friends of), Kahl Wallis, K Phillips,(USA), Digging Roots, (CANADA), Kathchafire (NZ) and much more, who will be joined by local and regional artists performing across 3 nights of entertainment on the Frontier Days stage.
